Greetings from Thrissur.

Though a CME could not be conducted in February this year, I am glad to say that a meeting of ACM council members was held on 23.5.15 at the Seminar hall of Department of Microbiology, GMC, Thrissur, which as President, I presided over. There was active discussion on many issues with members volunteering to take part in all the activities. 11 members of the Council were present.

The main items which were taken up for discussion were:

  1. Issues related to special article 2016, in JACM: There was an earlier discussion whether or not to include the staff members who extract the data, as authors from each centre that contributes the data for the special article. The editorial board member who does the analysis will be first author and the contributors will be in the order of total number of data reported, from highest to lowest. It was decided that one person from each centre can be included in the authors list. This will be ratified in the next GB.
  2. Archiving the older issues of JACM, as e-copies on the ACM website. Dr. Kalpana will take the initiative
  3. Starting an external QC program, initially for Kerala under the aegis of ACM by Dr. Sohanlal, MIMS, Calicut, Kerala, India, who has volunteered.
  4. Conducting a workshop for modification of PG curriculum and examination pattern by the Dept of Microbiology, Govt. Medical College, Thrissur, Kerala, India, during October 2015. A request to participate will be sent to senior faculty of all PG teaching institutions. Dr. Kavita said she has already made a draft curriculum which can be discussed at the workshop.
  5. Guidelines for conducting CME/ Conference under ACM will be prepared by Dr. Chithra, Secretary ,ACM, with inputs from all members
  6. The next CME in August under the aegis of ACM will be conducted by Dr. Seema Oommen at the Department of Microbiology, Pushpagiri Institute of Medical Sciences. Thiruvalla, Kerala, India, on 1 st August 2015. Theme is-″Antibiotics - from testing to treatment".

Please join the ACM executive team to make all our endeavours a grand success.
