Greetings from Thrissur.

We have had some interesting activities in the last six months.

The first and foremost being the CME on Surviving Bacterial Drug Resistance at Jubilee Mission Medical College and Research Institute, Thrissur. It was conducted under the able leadership of Dr. Sathiavathy K.A., the Organising Chairperson and Dr. Chithra Valsan, Organising Secretary who is also Secretary of ACM. Five topics were covered elaborately: antibiotic stewardship by Dr. Anup Warrier (Aster Medicity, Kochi), recent trends in antibiotic resistance by Dr. Anil Kumar V. (AIMS, Kochi), PK-PD of antibiotics by Dr. Anoop Kumar A.S. (Consultant in Critical Care, Baby Memorial Hospital, Kozhikode), interpretation of microbiology reports by Dr. Sohanlal T., (Astra MIMS, Kozhikode) and coping antibiotic resistance in critical care by Dr. John Paul (Consultant, JMMC and RI, Thrissur). This was followed by poster presentation for postgraduates (PGs).

Under the aegis of Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), the curriculum for undergraduates (UGs) and PGs was considered in several levels after discussion with subject experts and Board of Studies. KUHS will publish regulations 2016 of KUHS in the near future. Dr. Remadevi S., Dr. Saradadevi, Dr. Vijayakumar S. and Dr. Reena John were responsible for the PG regulations and Dr. Girija K.R. and myself the UG regulations.

The much awaited New Curriculum for MBBS students due in 2017 did not materialise. We must urgently do something because medical colleges exist to create doctors with good standards and recent knowledge of diseases in our community. We, in medical college, are deviating from all this. Teaching must be our priority.

Research projects for PGs must also be looked into. It needs to be community oriented and patient oriented. Topics are being chosen and repeated so many times, so much so that it may not be of any use to the community. A list of research projects may be generated by each institution.

The Government of Kerala is taking up antibiotic stewardship in a big way. Soon, all the medical practitioners are going to be taught about good antibiotic usage and practices, and a drug formulary will be published.

The Seventh Triennial Conference of ACM will be hosted by the Government Medical College, Calicut. Tentative dates suggested were 10-12 th August 2017.

Dr. Chithra, Secretary, ACM, said that the address book updating is under process.

This is the lag end of our term, team ACM. Another six to seven months for us to hand over our duties.

Season's greetings, New Year 2017 is fast approaching.

Warm regards to one and all from Team ACM.
